Home Cooking
Fun Recipes for Doggy Delights.

If your dog seems bored with commercially prepared dog food, perhaps you would like to do some home cookin’ once in a while.

We recommend however that if you feed home prepared meals on an ongoing basis you should supplement your dog’s diet with essential vitamins and nutrients. Always consult your veterinarian regarding prolonged dietary changes. This information is for entertainment purposes only.

No recommendations are made or implied to suggest completely changing your dogs diet, or to substitute a balanced healthy diet. Occasional “special meals” are Ok. Consult a professional if you intend major changes.

I have cooked the following dishes for my dog’s, with no problem.
It’s even fun...sometimes. :)

Seeing as I’m Irish, here’s some tasty lit’l tidbits that get my dog’s saying “Top o’ the Evenin’ to ya”... every time.

Depending on the size of your dog, feed accordingly (ask your vet if you are not sure). You can refrigerate leftovers, and serve again in a day or two.

Fido’s Irish Stew
This is a 2 paw’s (and a tongue) up recipe

4 ounces cubed beef (any type) (This recipe can also be made with one chicken breast
1 beef bouillon cube and chicken bullion instead of beef.)
1 small teaspoon safflower oil
1 raw egg
I/4 can of green beans
1 small diced carrot
2 small diced potatoes
1 tablespoon corn
1 cup water

How To Prepare It:

Heat oil in small pan over medium heat, cook beef until brown.
In separate saucepan, boil carrots and potatoes until partially cooked. (about 15 min.) Remove from heat and drain .

In same saucepan add water, beef and other ingredients, cover and boil then simmer for 30-40 min. or until cooked.
Once cooked, place in cool dish. Allow ample time to cool before serving.
If you really wanna spoil ‘em...some small plain croutons (not many) can be added for crunch. Mix and partially soak in stew for 10 min. before serving.

The Irish Wolfhound Taco
For those that like that kind of thing!

3 ounces of shredded beef. (any type)
1 soft wheat taco shell
1 tablespoon grated Swiss cheese
I tablespoon cottage cheese
I teaspoon vegetable oil
I raw egg yolk
1/2 cup cooked rice
Ohhh!!..and don’t forget, 3 Cooked Green Beans ?

How To Prepare It:

Place vegetable oil in frying pan, heat over medium heat, briefly stir fry shredded beef for 1 min. Remove beef from pan. Place soft taco shell on pan, add beef (spread evenly), pour egg yolk over beef, cover mixture with grated cheese. Heat until cheese melts, fold over and cut into pieces. Place in cool dish on top of cooked rice. Allow ample time to cool. Place blob of cottage cheese on top, and Ohhh!...what are the 3 Green Beans for ?
I cut them up and make a dog’s head, ears, nose, mouth ...Ya know..makes a cute garnish. Bueno!

Hearty “Kerry Sheepdog” Burger
Kerry Sheepdog?... there has to be a joke here??

This one’s a “No Brainer”, there was a joke here...just coddin ya. Kerry people, please don’t take offense. (Especially Alan and Mark, you know who you are.)

1/4 pound of ground beef
1 tablespoon oatmeal
1 teaspoon safflower oil
1 egg yolk
1 thin slice tomato
1 tablespoon grated Swiss cheese
1 small potato (if you want fries)...I said fries, not flies.
1/4 can of spinach
1 whole wheat bun, or 2 slices of whole wheat bread

How To Prepare It:

Put ground beef, egg yolk, and oatmeal into small bowl. Mix thoroughly to nice consistency. Remove from bowl, roll out and make burger sized patties. Cook in oil over medium heat turning occasionally (don’t burn them), just before removing add thin layer of grated cheese, when cheese softens, remove patties. Place bread or bun’s (not yours) on pan for 30 sec’s (put spinach around it on pan also). Remove and place bun’s on cool dish, place patties on bun, cover with thin tomato slice and spinach, add top bun.

For fries, cut small potato up into thin fry like slices (cut both ends of fries square), add tablespoon vegetable oil to pan, place fries evenly on pan, turning often. Cook until fork can easily penetrate fries...don’t burn them as the edges can become hard and sharp, remove any fries like this, that you think could harm your dog. They all should be soft.

Allow Ample time for all portions to cool before serving

Chicken a La’ Leprahound

A Leprahound (half dog, half leprechaun) is like a Jackalope (you guy’s have to know what a Jackalope is, if not call the South Dakota tourist office).

1/4 cup spinach
1/4 cup corn
1 carrot cooked
1 small potato cooked

Add rest of ingredients (except water and rice) to pan, slightly increase heat, stir fry for 5 min. Mix water and bouillon cube together and add to pan, let simmer for 15 min. Add chicken strips for 5 min. before removing from pan, pour over bed of cooked rice. Allow ample time to cool before serving.

Red Setter’s Puppyroni Pizza

Kinda catchy... Huh? Red Setter’s Pizza, maybe we could start a franchise ?
Naah, all the staff would be either too hyper or paranoid and would stand around staring at invisible birds scurrying around the floor of the restaurant. Hmmmm.

1 slice whole wheat bread
1 small tomato
2 heaped tablespoons of cottage cheese
1 tablespoon grated Swiss cheese
4 green beans (diced)
1 tablespoon cooked corn
1 tablespoon bone meal
1 tablespoon (heaped) cooked chicken breast (sliced in small chunks)
1 tablespoon (heaped) cooked beef (sliced in small chunks)
4 pieces of cooked pepperoni

How To Prepare It:

Mash tomato into thick paste and spread over surface of bread. Then coat bread with thin coat of cottage cheese. Mix bone meal and grated cheese together and sprinkle over cottage cheese (save just a little for final topping). Place bread on frying pan over medium heat until underside begins to brown.
Remove from frying pan, place on sheet of aluminum foil. Add toppings of pepperoni, beef, chicken and veggies. Lightly sprinkle remainder of bone meal/cheese mixture (not much) over entire surface. Place under grill/broiler until cheese topping begins to melt. Allow ample time to cool before serving

Tip: Be sure to cover the crust areas with cottage cheese, do not leave them exposed to heat of broiler or they will burn. If they do burn cut them off before serving.

And for Dessert...

Poodle Strudel

I know a poodle is not an Irish dog but those French make delicious desserts.

1/4 teaspoon sugar
6 dried raisins

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Put apples, raisins and cooked oatmeal in small baking dish, brush margarine over top for coating and sprinkle top with raw oatmeal.

Bake for 20 minutes (uncovered).

When cooked sprinkle with sugar. Allow ample time to cool before serving.

Dobie Delight

Can’t forget the Germans. Thought I could cook up a really tasty bratwurst/sauerkraut based dessert, but could get no takers. I wonder why ??

1 small banana
4 heaped tablespoons of cottage cheese
1/2 cup of cooked rice
2 slices of canned peaches (diced)
1/4 cup raw oatmeal
I raw egg yolk
1 teaspoon margarine

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Mash banana in bowl, add peaches, cottage cheese and raw egg yolk. Put rice on sheet of aluminum foil and mold cooked rice into small nest shape (with 1 inch walls) about size of small saucer. Add ingredients to center, brush on margarine over entire surface. Sprinkle raw oatmeal on top.

Bake for 15 -20 mins.

Allow ample time to cool before serving.

Hope you have fun with these recipes. Check in again soon we will add a few from time to time. Tell your friends about our site, they may even thank you. :)
